Built as a national school in the 1880s, generations of locals received their formal education here and since the building ceased functioning as a school, it's been a vital part of our vibrant community for almost four decades. It was taken over by a group of volunteers in 1985, and set up as a charitable organisation affiliated to Muintir na Tíre, when the new Darrara National School was built just quarter of a mile away. After a meticulous restoration in 2013/2014, the community centre continues to thrive as a hub of local life. Explore fascinating local landmarks On our new website you can read about our local area - the history of Ring Port, Arundel's Grain Store, and Darrara Church. Delve into the pre-famine era, find out about Lios na gCon Ring Fort and the pre-famine cottage in Ballintemple. And learn about the educational institutions that have helped shape our community: Darrara National School and Clonakilty Agricultural College. Run by Volunteers: A Place for Everyone Managed entirely by volunteers, our centre proudly serves as a place where people of all ages can come together, meet new friends, and pursue their interests. It's a hive of activity seven days/nights a week. The gym is open from 7am to 10pm every day for members. Something for Everyone Among the weekly activities are Art, Yoga, Fitness Classes for all ages, Dance Classes etc. All the activities are listed on the new website. Any organisation or group wishing to enquire about having an event or hosting classes or activities can make contact with us via the website. Gym Gift Card There's also our new Gym Gift Card, which is available in any monetary amount, and available from the gym team by contacting mobile 0863787905. A Resource for All We hope our new website serves as a useful and valuable resource. Let us know if you have any questions or feedback! |
